It was exactly this feeling that Elena Peña, a fashion expert from Madrid, had four years ago. She left a stable job and created her own firm handmade footwear company.

Micuir is not just shoes, boots or accessories. Behind it hides a sustainable brand formed by Spanish artisans who give life to pieces with a "slow fashion" stamp. And this blog was born with that aim in mind. A corner in which to tell you the secrets behind the name Micuir. Grab a coffee, a blanket and sit down to read without rushing. Details that make a difference

We start with two curiosities. The first one, if you are a member of our Micuir Gang (women who own a Micuir in their wardrobes), it is very likely that you know it. But, just in case there are any of you who are confused or have just discovered us, we'll tell you. The name Micuir comes from the union of the Spanish pronoun "mi" and the French word "cuir" which means "leather". Surprised? Our brand is a statement of intent from the outset.

The second is about the process of making our shoes. Up to 44 Spanish artisans are involved in this work. Salva, Mayte, Victor... Each one of them handcrafts the last of our shoes (exclusive to Micuir), places the heel or polishes the shoe, among other meticulous manufacturing processes. All with a single objective: that you get your hands on a unique piece created with great care. 

But we are going to reveal one more detail: each Micuir is registered at the OEPM (Spanish Patent and Trademark Office). We want to show you that our commitment to exclusivity is real. Your Micuir will always be unique.

A sustainable footwear brand for responsible consumption

If there is one thing the Micuir Gang agrees on, it is the longevity of our shoes and bags which, like fine wine, get better with age. All thanks to the use of high quality leathers that acquire a more beautiful appearance with the passing of time. This is the magic of handcrafted footwear.

That is why those who trust in Micuir keep their shoes and bags season after season without having to renew them every year. Something that our planet is very grateful for. However, we have a greater goal: to create a family legacy with pieces that are passed on from generation to generation. And we achieve this through the use of premium leathers recycled from the food industry, -which brings us to the next point-.

Faithful to the Spanish shoemaking tradition 

As the saying goes: dress me slowly because I'm in a hurry. A premise that has been maintained for decades in the handcrafted production of Spanish footwear. 

For this reason, all our designs are worked on over a slow fire. Spending up to nine months in the process of elaboration of each one of them. And yes, perhaps we are going against the tide in a world where immediacy and haste are the daily bread. But we are aware that this "fast fashion" is killing our planet.

And this is where the Micuir commitment was born: to create sustainable footwear in Spain with manufacturing processes that respect the environment.
